Former finance minister Des van Rooyen, who held office for just four days in 2015, appeared in front of the State Capture Inquiry on August 11 2020. At the centre of evidence was Van Rooyen’s appointment of two Gupta-linked advisers, Mohamed Bobat and Ian Whitley, immediately after he was sworn into office as minister on December 10 2015, without seeing Bobat’s CV.
